Janice Warman is a South African-born, award-winning writer and national journalist, whose critically acclaimed debut poetry collection These are the Things We Have Lost (Fly on the Wall Press, 2026) traces a journey from a childhood in South Africa to a life in the UK through the dynamics of family, domestic violence, feminism, resistance, and escape.
She is the author of YA fiction and non-fiction on apartheid South Africa, including the prizewinning YA novel The World Beneath (Walker Books), about a boy who rescues a freedom fighter, and Class of ‘79 (Jacana), about three fellow students who risked their lives to destroy apartheid.
Her journalism career spans The Guardian, The Observer, the Financial Times, The Spectator, and BBC Radio 4. She has lived in Sussex for 45 years.
