Book Club Edition - Women’s Social Club

When I first started this little project, it came from a very personal place and from an experience many of us shared during the Covid years.

Like so many people, I suddenly found myself at home, separated from friends, from normal life, from those small social moments that bring colour to our days. One of the simple pleasures we were left with during that time was reading. Books became a quiet companion, a way to travel somewhere else while the world felt paused.

That is when I decided to start a small book club with a few friends. My intention was very simple: to keep a sense of connection and to entertain ourselves a little while we were all locked in our homes.

We started meeting through our screens, each of us with a virtual glass of wine, talking about the books we were reading and chatting about life. Slowly, the group grew in the most natural way. Friends introduced their friends, and suddenly women who did not know each other before were sharing stories, opinions, laughter, and thoughts about the books we were reading.

That is really how the book club began: through a screen, during a strange and quiet time in the world, but with warmth and friendship at its heart.

When life opened up again and we were finally unlocked, the book club slowly moved into real life. Meeting in person felt even more special after those long months of distance.

Life continued to change, as it does. When my ex-husband left, those gatherings became something even more meaningful. The group that started with books slowly became something like a small support circle. Sometimes we talked about books, sometimes we simply walked together, went to the cinema, laughed, shared stories, and kept each other company through different moments of life.

This book club, in many ways, is a celebration:

  • A celebration of long friendships and new friendships
  • A celebration of women who stayed beside me through different seasons of life
  • A celebration of women who still read, still laugh, still go for walks, still watch films together, and still make time to gather

It is my quiet way of saying thank you to those women.

For this gathering, I will suggest three book titles. You are welcome to read all of them if you have the time, or just one, or as many as you wish, or even none at all. We will still find something to talk about, to discuss, to laugh about, and to share.

Because at the end of the day, it is not only about the books.

The togetherness is what truly matters.

I truly hope you enjoy the books we will read together, the conversations they inspire, and the simple pleasure of sharing an evening with other women who love stories.

I am very much looking forward to meeting you and warmly welcoming you to our Women’s Social Club.
